"I haven't done much presentations, even in front of a small group, so please don't hate on me if i get things wrong. A mental illness is the term giving to anomalies in human behavior, right? I assume you all know that by now, since you all took this class...
Anyways, some... illnesses... well, the most common ones, are from birth, someone is born with said anomaly and is forced to live their whole lives with it. What am i saying? Everyone one who has an anomaly is born with it, but some only start manifesting at a later age, commonly age 5 if im not mistaken... while others only manifest after a life-changing event...
say... a car crash, a death of a loved one, house fire, the list goes on, and i don't believe i have time to name them all. The illnesses vary in form, from a simple personality disorder, to a full-blown psychopath, and even bigger extremes... I do not mean offence to you or anyone if you have a disorder, you have my respect.
But human nature.... isn't so generous.... We a... humans are very complex creatures. We are smart and curious, we like to know new things. But the true human nature isn't pretty, at all... We are mindless killers at times, unable, or unwilling to accept thing that are different. Admit it, even you treat people with said illnesses differently, you can't hide it, it's the human nature.
Now.... lets say that there's, i don't know, a person with superpowers out there. Yeah you in the second row, i can see you laughing, of course superpowers don't exist. That's why if someone turned out to have some, what would you do? Oh for crying out like Jake, no, you would not be the one to have them. What do you think the government would do? It's simple, human, nature. Come on, I can't be the only one that watched superhero movies or alien movies? The government would try to capture that person, lock them up in a lab and try to understand them, or kill them...
What I'm trying to say is that if there was a new illness that cause boosts in the physical or mental capacity, said person will become a lab rat. Cruel, i know, but its human nature."
"That's good Risa, don't need to go further, you've made your point." Said the teacher as the girl presentating went back to her desk and dropped down on the chair.
Another girl, brunette with a few small chunks of hair dyed red looked at Risa, twirling a dark green pencil between her fingers.
"I hope you were all paying attention, cause these are great notes for the test in two weeks" The teacher declared, sending a wave of whispered "shit"s and "fuck"s in the class. The brown and red haired girl bit her lower lip and looked down at the blank piece of lined paper. She hadn't bothered to write anything down, she never bothered to be honest. She almost hit blood in her lower lip before she looked up from the paper. "Didn't write it down did ya Kelly?" Asked a boy in the row below her. Kelly had most of her classes with this boy, his name was Jake, and he was the joker of the class. She shook her head no. He grinned. "I did, look" He showed his paper that had a crudely drawn superman stick figure on it. Kelly smiled widely, retaining a laugh.
"Hey love birds, do you want to pass the test or not?" Asked the teacher jokingly, passing the books that the students needed to read for next week. Kelly blushed uncontrollably, while Jake had somehow managed to turn his superman drawing into a paper airplane. "GO PAPERMAN" He yelled before throwing it in Risa's general direction. The whole class spazed in giggles and laugh. Risa lifted her head while the paper airplane was only a few feet from her face. A strong wind from the fan blew it back towards Jake, hitting him right between the eyes. The class was again dominated by waves of laughter, even the teacher couldn't retain a smile.
Almost on queue, the bell rang, sending a tsunami of advanced science students out the door. Kelly picked up her books and started making her way out while Jake picked up all his ugly, yet funny drawings and 'Paperman' before rushing out the door.
"Was science class a blast?" Asked a red-haired girl sitting in front of Kelly in the cafeteria. Kelly lifted her eyes from her book about psychotic killers for science. "Eh, if you call Jake making a new superhero a blast" The red head was a few years older than Kelly, but she was the closest thing she had to a friend in this school. They where both loners and science freaks, which worked well with Kelly. They where a few other science loners in the campus, but Samantha, the red head's name, was the only one she seemed to get along with. The others seemed so secretive, which is saying alot coming from Kelly, who has a big secret to keep.
"Hey girls" Said a familiar voice as the clank of a plate against the table was heard. "Shouldn't you be hanging out with the popular kids?" Asked Samantha, irritated. Kelly looked up from her book to meet Jake's emerald green eyes. "Eh, they're too predictable, i like you two's reactions better." He said, grinning. Sam rolled her eyes and started eating the chicken wings in her dish. Kelly turned the page to a picture of a human brain. "So... how's Paperman?" She asked, not lifting her eyes from the picture. "Don't encourage him" Said Sam in a mouthful of food. Jake smiled. "Oh you know, he flew straight into the trash can when the janitor caught me" Kelly lifted her eyes from the brain of a psychopath. "Again?"
Kelly pulled up her laptop, there was still two hours before the end of the day, she didn't have any classes after diner, nor did she have a ride home. Samantha finished her chicken and gave a short wave as a signal that she was going to her next class. Kelly nodded to respond to the signal. Sam got up and left in the general direction of the math classes. Jake had already nested himself in one of the couches on the west side of the cafeteria, apparently playing with his 3DS or something portable like that. Kelly sighed and began surfing the internet, looking up the definition of any wacky word crossing her mind.
